WHAT IS NDIS?

The NDIS is a system of providing support to people with a disability, their families and carers. Launched in 2013 by the Australian Federal Government, the NDIS uses an insurance approach similar to Medicare, meaning the costs for disability care are shared amongst the wide community.

Essentially, the NDIS has been designed to give people with a disability greater choice and control over the support they receive – providing eligible individuals with funding based on their personal needs and lifelong goals and aspirations.

WHAT IS PSYCHOSOCIAL DISABILITY?

Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe disabilities that may arise from mental health issues.

Not everyone who has a mental health condition will have a psychosocial disability, but for people who do, it can be severe, longstanding and impact their recovery. People with a disability as a result of their mental health condition may qualify for the NDIS.  (Definition taken from Mental Health and the NDIS)
